SKYWARN Recognition Day 2022

I have some information for weather enthusiasts, especially those that participate on the Wednesday evening Skywarn net. The National Skywarn Recognition Day is fast approaching and is scheduled for December 3rd. That’s not surprising except for those of us that forget it’s always the first Saturday in December.

The Hanford NWS office has a special part of it’s website dedicated to Skywarn (NWS Hanford Skywarn), but that’s not where I saw the reminder. Because of the frequency of weather related events, the East Coast NWS offices generally have more dedicated website information for everyone to see. I especially like the wealth of information provided on the Binghamton, NY NWS office. If interested, checkout their SKYWARN Links and Brochures "Skywarn Training Schedule" where I saw the reminder.

UPDATE:

I have finally figured out how to sign up for SRD 2022, and boy is it tricky. Going to the webpage to sign up (Skywarn™ Recognition Day)
The Skywarn Recognition Day 2022 Registration Form link pops up as 2021 that does not work!

It is necessary to click on the next link below, Skywarn Spotter Mapping Form (ArcGIS Web Application). This webpage opens as a map showing all the various locations of Skywarn spotters for the event and where you can register. Depending on your device (tablet, smartphone, or computer) finding where to click will likely differ, but you should see “Click the "click here" link and follow the 2022 form instructions to register for the 2022 SRD event.”

Hi Jody - I saw you‘re joining the fun. This is not a contest, but just an enjoyable event where you keep track of your QSO’s and use your SRD number to share with the various NWS offices you contact. Afterwards you can print out a certificate based on how many contacts you are able to make. There are different certificate designations based on your total count, such as 1-5, 6-10, etc. There are no restrictions of modes or bands, so you may contact the same NWS office more than once depending on their availability.
